biogas-nord-cofermentationBiogas Nord is a global company building turn-key biogas plants all over the world. Established in the year 2000 and headquartered in Bielefeld, Germany, Biogas Nord has constructed to date more than 300 biogas plants worldwide, in Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, the USA, Italy, Spain, Belarus, Ireland, India, Thailand, Cuba, Romania and Latvia. The company is one of the largest technology suppliers in the biogas industry, and the electric power installed in BIOGAS NORD biogas facilities comprises more than 75 megawatts (MW), with which almost 100,000 households can be provided with electricity or heat from regenerative energy.

Biogas Nord`s own in-house developed plant technology is well proven over many years as durable, flexible and reliable. It adpats the core technology for each plant, to local conditions and states that this philosophy coupled with optimised use of efficient, high-grade components delivers their winning products. Optimal operating profitability is, they say, achieved by a fermentation technology designed for flexible substrate selection combined with low operating costs and a high gas yield. Further efficiency increases for each plant are achieved through the integration of a heat recovery (CHP) system.

BIOGAS NORD owns a number of subsidiary companies such as Biogas Nord Power AG which is a company investing in Biogas plants all over the world. Founded in 2010, it is a 100 % subsidiary of Biogas Nord AG. Other subsidiaries include BIOGAS NORD Espana SL, BIOGAS NORD UK Ltd, BIOGAS NORD SAS, BIOGAS NORD US Inc, Bio.S. Biogas Grimma GmbH & Co KG, Bio.S Biogas Verwaltungs GmbH and Biogas Nord India Pvt Ltd.

As a full-service, EPC Contractor, for biogas projects they deliver turn-key biogas plants, and also take care of the business and commercial aspects of the projects. They describe themselves as a partner that we will take care of every aspect of a biogas business, starting with the planning, financing, permitting, construction and all the way up to operating and running the daily business activity of the plant.

They offer biogas plants, in a wide range of sizes, from small plants with 75kW, up to biogas plants capable of delivering several MW. Biogas Nord employs a team of qualified and experienced personnel made up of engineers, biologists, business management specialists and technicians. They stres that they assist the client comprehensively, from the planning phase to construction down to the start-up of the biogas plant. The Company supplies purely agricultural biogas plants, as well as cofermentation plants (combined treatment of municipal, industrial and agricultural waste, sludge and effluent), together with combined heat and power systems.

Biogas Nord Concrete Digester

Biogas plants installed by Biogas Nord use a plug-flow digester design, using one or more concrete digesters through which the substrates are continuously pumped. The digesters are fitted with up to four stirring devices Gas storage is usually provided in double-membrane roofs. They install wall and floor heaters within the concrete walls of the digesters to maintain the required temperature range in the reactor.

The proportion accounted for by activities outside Germany is already set to grow rapidly and will exceed 35% this year (2012). The Polish company European Business Partners Sp. z o. o. (EBP), holds a large shareholing as an investor in Biogas Nord AG since the start of 2009.

Biogas Nord AG has a branch office in Mumbai, India, to facilitate the growth of Biogas Nord’s presence in India, where they have become aware that the rapidly growing economy has put a strain on energy supplies, raising concerns over the booming nation’s ability to meet its energy demand.
